How to Write your First Stand Up Comedy Bit, Pipe Dream, or the Beginning of a Journey?

How to write your first stand up comedy bit can be a daunting task indeed, and is something that came across my desk the other night after a conversation with someone who also may be doing this soon. I soon realized that while I may be good at writing blog posts, reports and the like, that How to Write Your First Stand Up Comedy Bitwriting a decent comedy bit that you could actually say on a stage is a completely different animal. And so, in this blog post, I’ll discuss the writers block that I have for writing a comedy bit right now, some of the possible comedy topics that relate well to my own life that I could discuss on the stage, and much more. For more information on all things business and skills acquisition, read on or subscribe to our blog for additional details and information.

Some topics that I have been considering talking about during the stand up bit, should I actually get up the courage to do so include the following:

-My fraternity hazing stories

-My past bad roommates

-My experience with unemployment

-My experience with Catholic School

-Skydiving

-Tinder Dates

These are where I think I could tell the best stories, at least on paper. Writing and performing the bit in person is a completely different animal. And so, I’ll write about my thought process for this here.

How to Write Your First Comedy Bit, How I Think My Own Personal Process Might Go

So, while it would be super awesome to do this, and would likely even aid my career by way of increased public speaking skills, I think it is going to be very difficult for me to put together a decent 5 minute comedy bit that I could actually present on a stage. I think that my writing process for this will look a little bit like the Jerry Seinfeld method, which is basically to just….write…something….every…single…day. Even if it is one page, or one word, or for 5 minutes every day, the consistency will build up the quality of it over time, and will make sure that you keep at it. The key is to just keep at it every single day, I might start off by penciling in around 15 to 20 minutes per day, and if I am still having fun with it I’ll run with it, we have set a date for December 11th so that we have a somewhat realistic deadline for this, so we’ll see from here.

Will I Actually Do This? I Am Guessing Realistically Not

My hunch is that I realistically already have too much on my plate to actually pull this off, between dating, friends, family, a full time wealth management job that now has me working 60 hours per week, an online business that I would like to scale and make more money off of, and working towards the CFP designation which is incredibly difficult to obtain, I’m assuming that this will almost definitely fall through the cracks, but you’ll get blog posts on this every step of the way!

Final Thoughts on How to Write Your First Stand Up Comedy Bit, My Take

So with the little bit that I know on this subject, my take is that consistency and persistence are likely the key for pulling this off, hopefully one day I can do a night of awesome stand-up on a stage, it would be a fun experience indeed.
